Pandomnium in Thane Corporation meeting............mayor abruptly abandons house..............................

Power struggle in the Thane Municipal Corporation today took an ugly turn when the City mayor H S Patil had to beat a hasty retreat from the General Body meeting when the Opposition NCP Corporators virtually ran towards him and pounced on him.
Right from the start todays meeting of the corporation was a stormy one with the opposition members being aggrasive and determined as they were not not to allow the meeting to continue.
The meeting was called to nominate members for the various committees of the corporation including the Standing Committee, Co-option of members, and various others committees.
The NCP group was hurt as their political partners Congress had deserted them and formed another group in the corporation to teach the NCP a lesson.
To add fuel to fire the Ruling Shiv Sena gave the post of leader of opposition to the Congress leader Manoj Shinde which aggravated the situation.
The opposition leaders kept the proceedings hanging by bringing one issue or the other for the first hundred minutes.
The NCP leaders pointed out that the civic corporation had not not received any letter after the one of March 19 where in the break up of the groups was given.
In that the Congress was shown in the group lead by the NCP.
Despite the fact the NCP members were more than the Congress the Shiv Sena had nominated the Congress leader as the leader of the opposition which was questioned by the NCP.
However today during the meeting leader of the house Naresh Mhaske brought Manoj Shinde to the meeting and the latter was felicitated also.
However when the mayor started off with the proceedings and announced the party wise strength of members the NCP leaders took objection to the same and wanted to know based on what formula the parties had been given the share.
The Mayor went ahead with the proceedings and started opening the envelops containing the letters from the parties and reading out the name.
This sparked a row and the opposition members lead by Hanumant Jagdale, Nazeeb Mulla, Sanjay Bhoir rushed towards the Mayors table and raised slogans and virtually pounced on him.
Later the other NCP corporators joined their leaders and gheroed the Mayor and shouted slogans condemning him, and they included also a number of female corporators.
Meanwhile sensing trouble the Shiv Sena and BJP corporators also rushed towards the well to protect the Mayor and there was a wordy duel between the Shiv Sena and NCP corporators and fist blows. There was utter confusion in the house and totally melee.
In the process the Commissioner R A Rajeev, and Deputy Mayor Milind Patankar sensing further trouble got up and the slogan shouting continued for well over quite some time.
The corporators who were black ribbon also shouted slogan against Shinde and said “Betrayers” hai hai.
In the midst of the slogan shouting and melee the Mayor quietly left the meeting and abandoned it abruptly.
The NCP members did not not budge and inch and squatted on the floor in front of the mayors chair and remained there for quite some time while the Sena corporators took to their seats.
The Congress members ere silent spectators all through out the high pitched drama.

Despite drop in power generation in Q-II TAPS tops in mid year performance.................

The Tarapur Atomic Power Station (TAPS) from Thane district  tops the list of the Atomic Power stations in the country with a share of almost 32% of the total generation in the country during the half year ending September 2012 a report on power generation stated today.
The report stated that the during the half year ending September 2012 all the six plants in the country generated power totaling 16404 MUs. Of this Tarapur accounted for 5208 MUs, that of the other plants was RAPS 4163 MUs, MAPS 1380 MUs, Kaiga 2737 MUS, NAPS 1249 MUs, and KAPS 1667 MUs.
Tarapur achieved this distinction despite the fact that due to the shut down in Unit No:1 since the last two months it had generated 12.66% less power as compated to Q-I in Q-II.
The TAPS generated a total of 2780 MUs of power in Q-I while it generated only 2428 MUs of power in the subsequent quarters.
An attempt to information as to when the Unit I will resume its generation of power failed as none of the officers from the Plant including the station director could be reached despite repeated attempts.
The Tarapur Atomic Power Station (TAPS) the pride of Thane district and the nation has during the first quarter had contributed a 33.00% of the total Atomic power generated in the country an official report by TAPS stated here today.

The report stated that the TAPS has since its commissioning of the four units i.e. 1965 and subsequently generated a total of 123601 mus of power till end September  2012.

The contribution of TAPS to the national Atomic power generation has declined as compared to the past and the figures stated that it was 42.25 % in 2008-09; 42.43% in 2009-10; 34.45% in 2010-11; and 30.23 % in 2011-12.

As compared to last year the TAPS units have during the first  two quarters already completed a total generation of 53 % power the report indicated.

FDA to recover destruction cost of seized Gutka from those whom it seized the goods..

Having seized banned Gutka and other ingrediants to the tune of over Rs. 4 crores the Thane FDA now now has a uphill task of destroying the same as it cannot be stored for a long period.
The FDA office in the premises of the already stinking ESIS Hospital premises in Wagle Industrial Estate has already become a virtual godown of all the seized goods with no no room to move.
Whereever you go in the office you will find gunny bags of seized Gutka stored and this creates major hinderance to the corporates who visit the office for their routine work.
An official of the FDA who is also incharge of the massive drive carried out since the last four months just said that the Konkan division which had the distinction of topping the list of seizures in the state has a stock of around 5 tonnes of the seized goods.
He could not not however classify the Gutka and the supari mix stock which the department seized.
According to sources the department will incurre an expenses of Rs.26.50 per kg for the distruciton of the seized goods which comprises only of the Gutka. As regards the supari mix there is no no final decision as yet.
Hence the destruction of the 5 tonnes of the seized Gutka will cost the department around Rs. 1.32 lakhs.  The transportation cost will also be added to this expenses the officer said.
He said that they had identified a facility at Devnar which is approved by the MPCB for distruction of the seized goods.
But the FDA has decided to recover or ask the concerned parties from whom the goods have been seized to incur this expenses.
However at this stage one does not not know if the parties who have already surrendred their crores of rupees worth goods to FDA will incur additional expenses running to lakhs.
Meanwhile the FDA had already written to the civic corporations here seeking their nod to dispose of the seized goods in their dumping yard which needs to be done in the presence of the senior FDA officials.
However none of the civici corporations responded the reason is obivious why should the corporation give their neck to the FDA.
Moreover land fill is not not permitted as the Gutka contains plastic/polythene cover which is a banned item for land fill and give rise to environmental issues.
Hence the FDA has to wait and watch till the seized gutka is destroyed and the office is freed of movment space.
Asked as to when this will happen the officer kept his fingers crossed and said it will take its own time.

Ganpati will get smooth ride

Mumbaikar are mostly facing problem of roads because of potholes. A pothole is where the surface of the road has been eroded and a hollow has formed. Potholes can form quickly and are a hazard to the travelling public. It’s always a bumpy ride on city’s potholed roads.

It’s certain to be a bumpy ride for Lord Ganesha when mandals start bringing in the idols in next day, thanks to the potholes dotting the roads. Hence, the Brihanmumbai Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Samanvay Samiti has advised its mandals to keep gunny bags, metal strips or anything else they can think of to cover potholes temporarily and ensure balance and a comparatively smooth ride for the idols.

Devotees are sentimental about the idols’ well being. Even a little damage to an idol while travelling can hurt their feelings. That’s why samiti have been sending out messages to mandals to use such bags to cover such potholes so that no devotees will hurt and ganpati will have smooth ride on roads because of such bags.

Footpath are made for Hawker's

Footpath are made for pedestrians so they can avoid walking on road. The area of mumbai face the major problem of hawkers. The hawker question is central to the debates over public space in Mumbai. Since the late 1990s, elite NGOs and residents’ associations have been actively promoting, with some success, the idea that hawkers are to be blamed for many of the city’s problems. To them, hawkers are “a symbol of a metropolitan space gone out of control”. Hawkers use streets and footpaths, block traffic, depress real estate values and are, more generally, eyesores that prevent Mumbai from being a “world-class” city.
Many society as well as surrounding areas have raised their voice against these encroachments. The recently submitted a complaint about the encroachment to the BMC . Because of which we can see BMC is also struggling to remove those illegal hawkers from the roads and footpaths. But, because of interfere of political parties, hawkers are taking to much advantage. Political parties in the city have jumped for their support so that they can get elected by number of votes with the help of them.
By looking to this condition my opinion is that footpath are just build for hawkers to sale there product not for the man to walk.
